Cynthia McKinney's stalker pleads guilty!

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

If you have ever seen the documentary American Blackout, there is a scene that always breaks my heart. It shows my (former) congresswoman Cynthia McKinney at home. She had to live at home with paper on all of the windows and with her blinds tightly closed. I cry every time I think about it!

If you have never heard of Cynthia, she was the FIRST and ONLY person who demanded accountability after 9/11 and when the defense department couldn't account for MANY TRILLIONS of taxpayer dollars. She fought hard for the truth at a tremendous cost to her career and safety. The media grilled her every chance they could get and tried to discredit her and make her look stupid. The fact that she is a smart , strong black lady in congress made her a target for horrible treatment from all sides. To this day, she is the only person I know who could make Donald Rumsfeld sweat. The footage of that event is priceless!

Today, a man who had been stalking her plead guilty. I have mixed emotions about the result. I am glad that this ordeal is hopefully over, but I don't like it when criminals make plea deals. He should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

WSB reports: 25 year old Umair Qureshi was sentenced to time served after reaching a deal on a lesser charge.

The rights that we all enjoy were not won a hundred years ago. There are countless citizens who fight for our rights every day. We need a million more Cynthias!

I am so proud to call Cynthia my true friend, as she has literally saved my life on numerous occasions. (See the photo on my MySpace profile that shows me with Cynthia and the legendary Isaac Hayes).

I hope history classes will teach our kids about Cynthia for the rest of this nation's existence. She is one of our greatest Americans, and as the saying goes, "She ain't done yet!"
