My dearest friends, I'm passing the baton to the next generation

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Friends, thank you all for your unwavering support. Almost every day I receive letters that touch my heart, and your kind thoughts have really kept me going, even through the toughest of times. I really treasure each and every one of you!

Because my friends are such a diverse group, ANYTHING that I say will inevitably offend or anger some of you. I hope that each of you will find a way to accept me as I am. I will always say exactly what is on my mind and will never lie to you, but I also don't expect everyone to agree with me. I actually love it when someone else shares their perspective on things. Even when I receive hate mail, I still love the person who sends it because they are still part of our world. I forgive them for their ignorance, and I realize that I will probably never be able to change their minds.

Since 1995, I have dedicated much of my energy to being a human rights activist, at a great cost to myself, my family, and my friends. I am not quitting - I have just simply reached the point that I have done all that I can do. I will always be someone who stands up whenever I see something is wrong, but I am now passing the activist baton on to our younger generations. It is THEIR future that now hangs in the balance, and I know they have both the values and the leadership that will be required to really change our world into a better place.

Whenever I visit with young people, I am always inspired and amazed at their complete understanding of the problems with the world today. They are so busy living life and appreciating our world, that they are too busy to hate. The hatred and venom of the older generations haven't poisoned them. That gives me great hope for the future. But will the ignorant have to completely die off before the next generation can change the world? Time will tell...

If you have children, spend a little time LISTENING TO THEM - you might be amazed at what they might teach you!

Best regards,
