I am outraged and a call to action for those who can vote!

Friday, September 24th, 2010

I have never been more disappointed in our government than after the events of this past week. Our leaders are a total embarrassment to our country and the time for change is NOW!

The citizens of this country made it clear during the last election that we wanted meaningful change. Apparently, those in power didn't get the memo. There isn't a single person who should not be outraged by the failures of our Congress and the lack of leadership from our President [and I voted for Obama].

This isn't about the economy, tax cuts, or the repeal of the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy. It is about the people we sent to Washington, D.C. who put their own self-interests above the interests of our nation. This also isn't about being a Republican or Democrat, as both parties have been bought off by the special interest groups, lobbyists, and big corporations.

Instead of holding a debate about the issues before them, they want to delay taking any actions until after the elections. If we can't trust them to make tough decisions before an election, then they don't deserve to be in office after our next election.

In a previous blog entry (June 25th, 2009), I posted a link to a report by University of Michigan Center for the Study of Complex Systems. They created a diagram that showed which politicians received donations from the same companies that got the financial bailout. The squares represented the institutions that introduced money into the system, and the circles represented the Senators who received the money. The size of the labels were determined by the dollars contributed or dollars received and the Senators are colored by Party. Although the visualization is very complex, the conclusion is simple: All of them were corrupt and the political party didn't matter.

I ask each of you to PLEASE participate in fixing our government and VOTE in the upcoming elections! I don't care who you vote for, as long as you vote for who and what you believe in. If you don't have a clue about who to vote for, then see my Congressional shit list of people who NOT to vote for: Read blog entry
