Veterans Day 2011

Friday, November 11th, 2011

Thank you to all of my fellow veterans and to everyone who participated in the Veterans Day parade and festivities. Your support means so much to the brave men and women who have served our country.

In Huntsville, Alabama the new Veterans Memorial was opened today. It took 12 years of planning and $3.1 million (no tax dollars). It is stunningly beautiful!

A parade spectator tweeted this message: @chriswelch06 Chris Welch - "#huntsvilleveteransday wow you never realize how gutwrenching war is until u look at the eyes of loved ones who have lost someone"

Two groups participating in the parade always touch my heart: The Patriot Guard Riders and the Vets with Vettes Club which had 60 Corvettes carrying 60 wounded warriors.

There was an incident this morning that exemplifies the courage, bravery, and sacrifices made by our veterans:

When a van crashed into a group of spectators at the Huntsville Veterans Day Parade, people scattered everywhere. All except the veterans. While everyone else was running away, a group of veterans were running toward the scene to render aid.

Today I salute all of our veterans and to those serving in the military. Thank you for your service!

Best regards,
