What if we had listened to Cynthia McKinney?

Friday, April 27, 2007

A lot of debate is going on right now about the war in Iraq and the horrific state of our nation. I can't help but think of my former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, and where our nation might be now - if we had only listened to her. She was a lightning rod for controversy, but as time goes on we must all admit that she was right!

From foreign policy to domestic policy, from leadership with courage to the lack of leadership at the highest level. During her six terms in Washington, she was attacked on every front. She never wavered, she never relented. Now we know why - she always demanded the truth and was smart enough to know the difference between the truth and propaganda.

Let's take a look back at what she saw coming:

Economic disaster - in just four years, our economic condition deteriorated by over $22 trillion. Our national debt is over $53 trillion (not counting funds for war) and climbing rapidly.

Widespread Poverty - The middle class has almost disappeared. 16,000,000 Americans are now living in severe poverty. 37,000,000 live below the poverty line and 13,000,000 are children.

9/11 - What did Bush know and when did he know it? Cynthia was the only one with the courage to ask this question. We now know how our nation (and the world) was intentionally misled and we may never know the entire truth.

Donald Rumsfeld - McKinney is the only person who was able to shake Rumsfeld. All she wanted to know was where is the missing $2.3 trillion of taxpayer money appropriated to the Pentagon? That number is right - $2,300,000,000,000 are MISSING. How can you lose that much money and where did it go? -

Eroding freedoms - The PATRIOT act, rendition to torture, CIA abductions, abuse of prisoners, racial profiling, and the systematic abuse of legal process.

I honestly believe that had we only listened to McKinney, our nation and our world would be in much better shape right now.

Unfortunately, there is not much satisfaction is saying "I told you so." No matter what side of the political fence you are on, all of these issues have now risen to crisis status.

I hope and pray that we can find leaders like Cynthia McKinney that have the courage to stand up and fight for the truth.
