The Ron Clark Academy has moved to Atlanta!
Ron Clark has moved his famous teaching academy to Atlanta. They actually made a movie about Mr. Clark's successful approach to education. If you have school-age children, you will want to meet him. I have never met a more passionate teacher. Ron has been responsible for turning around countless lives, and has been an inspiration for teachers around the world.
Clark starts working with children at the 5th grade level to reach them before they fall prey to outside influences. We are so fortunate to have Ron move to the Atlanta area.
The 2007-2008 school year openings were quickly filled. There are a few openings left for students entering the 5th grade in the 2008-2009 school year, but the deadline is November 1st, 2007. The academy screens the applicants, and they only accept the students that would benefit the most from his teaching methods.
The tuition is expensive, but you pay on a sliding scale and they usually get a business to sponsor each child. They also make the parents sign a contract that they will volunteer forty hours a year to work with the school. Clark brings together all of the students, the parents, and the community to help run the programs.
It may be too late to apply (or your children may not be chosen), but here's the good news: Ron opens up his classroom so that other teachers may sit in and learn how to adopt his teaching methods. I would encourage all of the educators in the public school systems to apply and participate by visiting the academy.
What makes Ron's methods so great? First, they choose inner-city children who need the help the most. Second, they hire only the best teachers from around the country, most have won Teacher of the Year and other awards. Third, is his interaction with the parents. He actually visits the children in their homes. Many parents say they want to help their children study, but in many cases the parents themselves are uneducated. Ron takes time to teach the parents and the child. And finally, is his work with the community and other educators.
