Upcoming Supreme Court session will decide same-sex marriage cases

A new United States Supreme Court session begins tomorrow with some really big cases on the docket.
On Same Sex Marriage - There are seven same-sex marriage cases currently before the Supreme Court, but they all boil down to only two issues: Legality of the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and the California Proposition 8.
Although several states are voting on similar referendums, the court ruling will override all of them by finding them a violation of equal rights and the Constitution.
Even if you're not interested in LGBT rights, the California Proposition 8 case is one to be studied by all. There has never been a better example of how our legal system works at every level of government. The entire case was tried based on fact, not prejudices. There have been many significant cases (like Roe v Wade, Voting rights, etc.), but I'm not aware of any case that started in a lower court and rose all the way to the Supreme Court.
With a quick look at their case load, I think they will be decided in this session, but it will most likely be in early 2013 when they make a final ruling.
