New Jersey Supreme Court ruled gay couples have same rights as heterosexual couples.
Wednesday, October 25, 2006
The New Jersey Supreme Court just ruled that gay couples are entitled to the same rights as heterosexual couples. The case was filed by seven gay couples who said the state constitution entitled them to get married.
The court said the legislature must decide whether New Jersey will recognize gay marriage or other form of civil union. Massachusetts already allows same-sex marriages, but (including New Jersey) there are only five states without either a law, or a state constitutional amendment that blocks same-sex marriages.
