You stupid little shit! It is EMO - not EMU!!!! only in Alabama!
Monday, June 1st, 2009
I recently moved back to Alabama, and I swear it is like stepping back 100 years in time! Now I remember why I left in the first place!!! Now if you are from Alabama, I am too so I am not picking on anybody.
One thing I love about "the South" is that every car you meet, the driver always lifts a finger to wave "Hello." In Atlanta, all the drivers raise a finger - but it was always a different finger.....
I passed by a church in Center Star, Alabama and you know how they always try to put inspirational stuff on the billboard? This stupid church had a sign that said, "Satin will kill you!." That is not a typo on my behalf - it really said "Satin" instead of "Satan." Glad I wasn't wearing anything from the 70's or they might have flogged me. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, but no - it said "Satin" on both sides of the billboard.
I heard a kid begging his parent for "one of those emu hair cuts." Okay, is he just stupid, or am I the one "behind the times"? I think he really meant "emo" not "emu"...
Look in my top friends at Danny Noriega (the "-ish" kid from American Idol) because he has the perfect "emo" hair.
I guess stupid people are everywhere - it just seems like I am surrounded.....
Oh well, I love you ALL!
Merriam Webster defines "satin" as "a fabric (as of silk) in satin weave with lustrous face and dull back."
Merriam Webster defines "emu" as "a swift-running Australian ratite bird (Dromaius novae-hollandiae) with undeveloped wings that is smaller than the ostrich."
Merriam Webster defines "emo" as short for "emotional" and is "a style of rock music influenced by punk rock and featuring introspective and emotionally fraught lyrics."
Emo has been reinvented several times, and is now commonly referring to the fashion and haircut styles.
See Wikipedia for everything you ever want to know about "emo": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emo
"the term "emo" is sometimes stereotyped with long fringe (bangs) brushed to one side of the face or over one or both eyes, dyed black, straight hair, tight t-shirts (usually short-sleeved), studded belts, belt buckles, canvas sneakers or skate shoes or other black shoes and in some cases thick, black horn-rimmed glasses."
